A separatist organisation warned that Nigerian football stars invited by Cameroonian Football Association President Samuel Eto’o to a ceremonial tournament in Victoria City, Cameroon, on Thursday, November 30, 2023, will be murdered if they accept.

Comrade Chris Anon, claiming to be leader of the Ambazonia Interim Government in the US, warned DAILY POST’s correspondent in a phone message.

Eto’o invited Nigerian football stars to the competition to establish acquaintances and strengthen Cameroon’s football.

Nigeria’s former national football skipper, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Daniel Amokachi, and other ex-Super Eagles stars were cautioned not to accept Eto’s invitation by the Restoration Fighters of the Ambazonia Interim Government, who want Southwest Cameroon’s independence.

Anon said the tournament mocked Ambazonian people.

On Thursday, November 30, 2023, the separatist group declared a lockdown in Victoria City and Fago County.

The organisation advised locals to stay home and that violators would die.

“The Restoration Fighters of Ambazonia Control Victoria and the county and are committed to the lockdown,” the audio message said. We will defend Ambazonia’s independence cause. We don’t tolerate lockdown defiance.

“It is crucial to emphasise the gravity of the situation and warn against propaganda-like actions.

The football match planned by Samuel Eto’o is controversial, misguided, and insensitive.

“Involving Nigerian international players is deeply troubling.

Timing and location of the tournament raise questions.

We urgently advise Jay Jay Okocha, Daniel Amokachi, and those who are promoting and preparing to participate in the tournament to reconsider because their participation may unintentionally cause carnage.

Samuel Eto’o’s decision to hold this event in Victoria, an Ambazonia territory that has been plagued by war for seven years and murdered 30,000 people, seems questionable.

“It raises legitimate concerns about potential exploitation of the situation for negative purposes for Victoria and Ambazonia in general.”
