A renown human right activist and APC stalwart in Abia state, Chief Chidiebere Okoh, has called for an end to the repeated attempts of some vested interests to distract the workaholic and performing Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye over trumped up allegations for singular decision to be a patriotic Nigerian over matters of National interest.
It is now obvious that the Minister of Women Affairs is being victimised by certain cliques within the government as a result of her refusal to approve a $500 million loan request from the World Bank. Her sin is refusing to concur with the idea of continuous borrowing to mortgage the future of Nigeria and generations unborn. We are proud that there is still a Nigerian that is ready to stand for what is right, even if it means to stand alone.
We all witnessed the near physical confrontation between Kennedy-Ohanenye and the House of Representatives Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development which was averted on July 10, 2024, at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja as she appeared to clarify the controversy surrounding the alleged diversion of N1.5 billion intended for the payment of contractors by officials of the ministry.
Nigerians have bore witness to her open confession and we invite her prosecutors to disprove her with stronger evidence.
in her very words.
“I was intended to sign a $500 million loan; however, I declined to do so. Are you aware that the same World Bank staff in Nigeria retain 40% of the loans they collect, including World Bank loans, and refer to it as consultation fees?”
She further stated, “I am now at risk of my life as a result of my refusal to sign the $500 million loan.” I would like to inform you that I am entitled to five percent of the money if I sign the loan today. However, I declined to do so. It is one of the reasons the National Assembly and all of them are after me”.
This is very unfortunate at a point when Nigeria is bleeding to death as a result of reckless management of resources and public funds. Good spirited Nigerians should begin to speak up against these anomaly as Uju Kennedy has boldly done so that we will have little to leave for our next generation when these crop of leaders are purged from our system.
