Merridian Park Estate, a subsidiary of Lekki Gardens, has been embroiled in a web of controversy, with multiple allegations of breach of contract, deceitful practices, and poor customer service. This investigation report highlights the case of Hon. Ode and his wife, who fell victim to Merridian Park Estate’s unlawful practices, and sheds light on the company’s culture of impunity and disregard for clients’ rights.
Background: The Rise of Merridian Park Estate and Lekki Gardens
Merridian Park Estate has been a prominent player in Nigeria’s real estate industry for over a decade, offering luxurious homes with top-notch amenities. Founded by a group of investors with a vision to provide affordable luxury housing, Lekki Gardens quickly gained popularity among Nigeria’s growing middle class. As the company expanded, it established several subsidiaries, including Merridian Park Estate. However, beneath the surface of its success lies a culture of impunity and disregard for clients’ rights.

The Case: Hon. Ode and His Wife vs. Merridian Park Estate
Hon. Ode and his wife entered into a contractual agreement with Merridian Park Estate for the purchase of a property, making full payment via bank transfers. However, Merridian Park Estate falsely claimed that the payment was incomplete and cancelled the contract. Despite the contractual agreement being legally binding, Merridian Park Estate’s actions constitute a blatant breach of contract and deceitful behavior.
Evidence: A Trail of Deceit and Dishonesty
Proof of payment was provided to Merridian Park Estate, but they refused to acknowledge it. Emeka Onohwakpor and Co, a legal firm, was contracted and the matter was taken to court which ruled in favor of Hon. Ode and wife, ordering Merridian Park Estate to deliver the paid-for property. However, Merridian Park Estate continued to disregard the court’s ruling, falsely claiming that the property did not exist.
This trail of deceit and dishonesty is a clear indication of Merridian Park Estate’s culture of impunity and disregard for clients’ rights. To understand the dept of their deciet, the same company started advertising for sale of the said property and sent a copy of their offer to Hon. Ode using a different company name – Stone Hunters Limited, with the picture of the nonexistent property attached, luring them to acquire the property they said does not exist.

Merridian Park Estate’s actions demonstrate a clear breach of contract, which can have severe consequences, including financial losses, damaged relationships, and legal ramifications. Their deceitful behavior also undermines the trust and confidence that clients place in them. Furthermore, their disregard for the court’s ruling is a clear contempt of court, which can lead to severe penalties and sanctions.
Recommendations: Holding Merridian Park Estate Accountable
1. *Compel Merridian Park Estate to deliver the property*: Merridian Park Estate should be compelled to deliver the paid-for property to our client, as ordered by the court.
2. *Regulatory investigation*: Regulatory bodies should investigate Merridian Park Estate’s business practices and take necessary actions to prevent further exploitation of innocent Nigerians.
3. *Public awareness*: The public should be aware of Merridian Park Estate’s unlawful practices to avoid falling victim to their scams.
4. *Sanctions for contempt of court*: Merridian Park Estate should face sanctions for their contempt of court, including fines and penalties.

Merridian Park Estate’s breach of contract and deceitful behavior have caused significant harm to Hon. Ode and his wife.
