President Bola Tinubu has reminded the Armed Forces that the region depends on the Nigerian troops stationed in Guinea-Bissau’s capital as part of the ECOWAS Stabilization Force.
The 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which begins on Sunday, is why President Tinubu is in Guinea-Bissau.
The President reportedly informed the troops that he was in their camp to show support and to let them know that their country is proud of them. This was contained in a statement from his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communication, and Strategy, Dele Alake.
He also emphasized that Nigeria is a powerhouse on the African continent and that it has made significant contributions to the maintenance of democratic culture around the globe, encouraging the troops, who are being led by Brigadier-General Alhassan Grema.
Tinubu thanked the soldiers and Brigadier-General Grema for their commitment to serving Nigeria and their host nation, and he promised that Nigeria would continue to promote democracy in West Africa and everywhere else in the world.
“I’ve come to express my support for you. I want to reassure you that we are committed to promoting democracy and peace not just in West Africa but also everywhere else.
“Nigeria is a colossus that has left its mark in areas like Sierra Leone and Liberia. We rely on your assistance in defending the rule of law. I’ve been told that your allowances have been paid in full. Nothing else should aggravate you. We’ll keep assembling a potent army.
“You have our admiration. we are proud of your dedication. On you, Nigeria depends. Our nation will experience peace and advancement, the president declared.
Brigadier-General Grema thanked President Tinubu on behalf of the military for becoming the first Commander-in-Chief in Nigerian history to visit his troops abroad.
This is the President’s first foreign appearance on the African continent since taking office on May 29, 2023, at the 63rd Ordinary Session summit, which starts on Sunday.
The focal point of the conference will be Tinubu, whose plane landed at the International Airport in Bissau at precisely 5.30 p.m.
The 16 regional leaders are anticipated to address memos on crucial sub-regional issues, such as the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the financial situation of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers, and the Report of the 50th Ordinary Session of the Mediation and Security Council (MSC), which covered security challenges faced by member countries.
