Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has pledged to work with INTERPOL member countries to fight crime, terrorism, and maintain global peace, as well as to ensure public safety and uphold justice, according to a statement signed by the Ministry’s Deputy Director, Press, Bolaji Kazeem and given to the National Association of Online Security.
The Minister who led the Nigerian delegation—Vice President Africa (INTERPOL), AIG Umar Garba (RTD); Director, Police Inspectorate Department (PID), Mrs. Bola Blessing Aderele; Head (INTERPOL, National Crime Bureau), AIG Lanre Bankole, and others—is attending the 91st Interpol General Assembly in Vienna, Austria to celebrate
The Minister expressed optimism about international cooperation in combating crime and reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to working closely with Interpol and its member countries to make the world safer and more secure. Interpol’s extensive network, data-sharing mechanisms, operational support, and infrastructure funding in Nigeria play a key role in promoting global security.
Interpol’s centenary celebrations commemorated a century of international law enforcement cooperation among member nations. Nigeria’s active participation in the event strengthened its role as a responsible and proactive international law enforcement member, the Minister stated.
He said, “Our presence highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to international security and cooperation as well as a renewed commitment from all member countries to work collectively in addressing the evolving challenges of crime in the 21st century.”
The Interpol General Assembly allows worldwide law enforcement organisations to discuss transnational crime, share best practises, and collaborate.
The assembly covered policing innovations, security threats, and cross-border intelligence exchange.
The delegates discussed solutions to terrorism, cybercrime, drug, human, and other international crimes. The historic event included 196 African, Asian, and European nations.
