A devastating incident has occurred in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, where a widow, Alhakatu Abdulkarim, and her five children lost their lives after eating a local delicacy, Danwake.
The victims, who included Bashir, Firdausi, Hafsat, Usman, and Jamilu, passed away shortly after consuming the suspected contaminated food.
According to the Kano State Police Command’s spokesman, Abdullahi Haruna, the victims were rushed to Gwarzo General Hospital, where they were pronounced dead by medical professionals.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the deaths, with the police awaiting a medical report from the hospital.
Preliminary reports suggest that the widow may have used expired cassava flour to prepare the meal, which may have contributed to the tragic outcome. The incident occurred last Thursday, leaving the community in shock and grief.
