Chief Bode George, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that members who do not follow the party’s guidelines will be expelled.
When the party’s National Executive Council, or NEC, meets later this month, George stated that this will be one of their major considerations.
He claimed that the majority of the party’s politicians had little to no concern for the welfare of the populace and were primarily motivated by their own interests.
The elder statesman stated on Channels Television Sunday Politics that the main opposition party’s NEC is now prepared to take a firm step that would cause the PDP to revert to its former form.
“As politicians, are they only considering their benefit? What about the impact on the party?” he said.
“What is democracy? It all comes down to managing the land’s resources for the good of the populace. Right now, they haven’t done that.
And I’m hoping that by this month’s 27th, we’ll have a private meeting to discuss some personal realities.
We have the authority to expel anyone who is unable to follow the party’s rules and guidelines.
“The NEC has the right and ability to carry out that action. We ought to face some hard realities and return to the stance established by our party’s founding fathers.
According to TVAfrika, since the general election in 2023, the PDP, which was meant to offer a formidable challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has only engaged in internal strife.
Even when members of the PDP openly admit that they are working for the ruling party, some party members have bemoaned the party’s incapacity to discipline them.
Former Rivers State Governor and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike announced a few days ago that he would stay in the PDP and continue to support President Tinubu’s reelection in 2027.
