In observance of Pope Francis, US President Donald Trump on Monday mandated that American flags be flown at half-mast.
Trump posted the following on Truth Social: “May Pope Francis rest in peace! God bless him and everyone who cared for him.
Trump claimed to have signed an executive order honouring Pope Francis that placed all of the nation’s flags, both state and federal, at half-mast.
According to the US president, the pope was a fine man who loved the globe and worked hard.
The flag of the United States will be flown at half-staff at the White House, on all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all federal government naval vessels in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its territories and possessions until sunset on the day of interment as a sign of respect for His Holiness Pope Francis. I make this order, the President of the United States, using the authority granted to me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America.
“At all U.S. embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities overseas, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations, I also order that the flag be flown at half-staff for the same duration,” Trump said.
