According to the Daily Trust, senior military officials from many West African nations are currently meeting in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, to discuss the coup in the Republic of Niger.

Gen. Christopher Musa, the head of the ECOWAS military, is presiding over the conference that was called after the Economic Community of West African States threatened to use military force in Niger.

Chiefs from Togo, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Senegal, Liberia, Guinea, Gambia, Cote’Divoire, Cabo Verde, and the Republic of Benin are among those who have already arrived in the nation.

According to OHAFIATV News, ECOWAS gave the Niger coup leaders a one-week deadline to reestablish democracy or face military intervention.

The nation’s Presidential Guard last Wednesday imprisoned Nigerien President Mohammed Bazoum inside his palace.
