As the Ohafia Local Government chairmanship race heats up, the ruling Labour Party in Abia State is grappling with the crucial decision of selecting the ideal candidate for the position. Amidst the intense politicking, a strong advocacy has emerged, urging the party to consider Okamu Ward in Ohafia South for the coveted seat.
The clarion call is rooted in the principles of equity, fairness, and balance for progress, as Okamu Ward has never produced an elected chairman of the local government, while other wards have repeatedly held the position. This move is seen as a strategic effort to promote inclusivity and ensure that all wards have a fair share of representation in the governance of Ohafia Local Government.
With the Labour Party’s reputation for championing the cause of the people, the decision on who becomes the next chairman of Ohafia Local Government will be closely watched. Will the party heed the call for equity and fairness, or will other factors come into play? Only time will tell.
ELDER ENGR. AGWU ODUM (Ohafor Ward)
Elder Engr. Obinna Agwu Odum is a distinguished engineer, philanthropist, and leader born on November 24, 1976, in Asaga Ohafia, Abia State. He graduated from the University of Port Harcourt with a degree in Petroleum Engineering and a Master’s in Gas Engineering. He has certifications in Project Management and HSE Competence and is a member of several professional bodies.
With over 20 years of experience in the engineering sector, Elder Engr. Odum has delivered quality output and established OBOD GLOBAL CONCEPTS LTD, a leading firm in the petroleum sector. He is also the founder of OBICARE CHARITY FOUNDATION, which focuses on community development, human capital resource enhancement, and social justice.
As a Labour Party faithful, Elder Engr. Odum has committed his resources to the party’s success in Ohafia and Abia State. He is a candidate to be nominated for Chairman of Ohafia LGA in the upcoming Abia State Local Government elections.
However, too many people from Asaga, which is in Ohafor have been there as both elected Chairmen and in TC Capacity, this is not in line with the principle of equity and fairness.
CHIEF ONUKA (Isiama Ward)
Chief Onuka is a dedicated leader who has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the community, particularly the youths. Through various empowerment initiatives, he has supported indigent students with school fees, skill-training fees, and equipment for graduating trainees.
