A well-known Nigerian eatery in North London has been chosen by American singer Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as one of 10 winners to receive a grant.
ITV news reported on Tuesday that Beyoncé’s BeyGood Foundation established the Black Parade Small Business Impact Luncheon to “celebrate people, communities, and small businesses impacted by economic inequities worldwide,” with Beyoncé pledging £806,400 to help businesses.
Chuku’s, a restaurant in Tottenham, was chosen to receive £8,000 from Beyoncé’s foundation.
The co-founder of Chuku’s, Emeka Frederick, expressed his joy by saying, “This grant couldn’t be more appreciated. Lockdowns and the rising cost of living have taken a toll on Chuku’s, as well as other eateries without a cash reserve.
“We struggle daily to keep open so that we can reach our fourth birthday. With this cash, we’ll be able to continue temporarily honoring Nigerian culture on Tottenham’s High Road, making that battle a little bit easier.
Over 100 businesspeople attended the luncheon at the Four Seasons on Tower Hill for the chance to win £806,000 in prizes.
