Kigali, Rwanda – Acclaimed Nigerian singer Tems has canceled her upcoming show in Rwanda, citing the country’s alleged support for the M23 rebel group waging war in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Tems, known for her powerful voice and socially conscious music, took to social media to announce her decision, stating that she cannot in good conscience perform in a country that supports violence and instability in the region.

The M23 rebel group has been accused of committing atrocities in eastern Congo, including massacres, rapes, and forced displacements. Rwanda has been accused of providing military support to the group, allegations that the country has denied.

Tems’ decision to cancel her show has been met with widespread support from fans and fellow artists, who have praised her for taking a stand against violence and human rights abuses.

The cancellation of the show has also sparked a wider conversation about the role of artists in promoting social justice and human rights, and the responsibility of governments to protect their citizens and uphold international law.
