8,600 beer bottles that were loaded onto a van and transported from Kaduna to Kano State were seized by the Kano State Hisbah Board.
Idris Ibrahim, the board’s officer in charge of intoxicants, told reporters over the weekend that the alcoholic beverages were taken last Thursday at Kwanar Dangora village, which is located near the Kano-Kaduna road.
He said that the car had been followed by command personnel from Kaduna till it entered Kano territory.
“After we pulled over in Kwanar Dangora Village, the driver tried to flee, but our agents caught him.
“As you are aware, selling or consuming alcohol in Kano State is prohibited. After getting the driver’s statement, we will take him to court,” he declared.
Ibrahim added that the Hisbah team in charge of managing alcohol at the board was awaiting additional directives from the Hisbah administration.
During raids in several areas of Kano City, it also detained fifteen young ladies on charges of prostitution.
The women were apprehended in Hotoro Tishama, Bakin River Verd Sabon Gari, Miyangu Road, Hadejia Road, and the former Zoo Road vehicle parks on charges of engaging in prostitution.
Dr Mujahid Aminuddeen, the deputy commander-general of the board, confirmed the arrest and stated that several of the suspected prostitutes had been caught multiple times and charged with crimes, but they continued to operate in the illicit industry.
It’s terrible that some of these women travel to Kano from their home states and nations, where they indulge in prostitution and other disgusting activities.
They engage in a variety of activities as they wander Kano’s streets. In order to purify the state, we are urging the public to keep reporting such incidents,” he continued.
