The European Union has prolonged its individual sanctions against Russia for an additional six months, effective until March 15, 2025. This decision, announced by the EU Council, aims to maintain pressure on those responsible for undermining Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

In a statement, the Council revealed that the sanctions, which target over 2,200 individuals and legal entities, have been extended to ensure continued accountability.

However, two individuals – Nikita Mazepin, a Russian racer, and Violetta Prigozhina, the mother of Yevgeny Prigozhin – have been removed from the blacklist, following a EU Court decision to lift sanctions against them. Additionally, five deceased persons have been removed from the list.

The EU’s sanctions against Russia, initiated in 2014, have been a response to Moscow’s actions in Crimea and ongoing activities in Ukraine. Since February 2022, the EU has introduced 14 packages of restrictive measures, targeting over 2,000 individuals and legal entities.

These measures include travel restrictions, asset freezing, and a ban on making funds or economic resources available to listed individuals and entities. The EU Council reviews and refines the sanctions every six months to ensure their effectiveness and accuracy.
